FIGAN 2025 presents the winners of its Excellence Awards and the Technological Improvements and Innovations Competition
At each edition of FIGAN, the International Fair for Animal Production, the event organisation launches the Technological Improvements and Innovations Competition and the Excellence Awards, through which the sector’s best practices in these areas are recognised and promoted.
In this edition, the jury for the Excellence Awards and the Competition is chaired by Prof. Dr. Carlos Buxadé Carbó, Full Academician of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. Its members are Prof. Dr. Cristina Acín Tresaco, Prof. Dr. Ángel Jiménez Jiménez, Prof. Dr. Rosa María Bolea Bailo, Prof. Dr. Manuel Fondevila Camps, Prof. Dr. José Luis Olleta Castañer, Dr. Laura Lafoz del Río and Agricultural Engineer Javier Cuadrado Prados.

The FIGAN 2025 Excellence Award aims to recognise the standard and quality of facilities, production systems and livestock techniques in the swine and poultry categories. In accordance with the competition rules, the jury designated Malda Agropecuaria as the winner of the FIGAN Excellence Award in the poultry category, standing out for its innovation and excellence in broiler rearing, combining advanced technology with a firm commitment to animal welfare.

Malda Agropecuaria is a state-of-the-art poultry farm located in Maldà (Lleida), built in 2022, with a surface area of 33,956 m² and a capacity for 75,000 broilers, which will be expanded in 2025 with an additional 105,000 birds.
Fully automated, the farm optimises ventilation, heating and other systems through digital control. Its energy efficiency is enhanced by solar panels that generate more than 60% of its electricity. Biosecurity is a priority, with measures such as disinfection arches, bird-proof netting and separate areas for feed and waste handling.
In terms of animal welfare, it offers elevated platforms for resting, access to natural light and continuous environmental monitoring. In addition, a satellite-connected alarm system and a generator set ensure operational control and safety.
The jury also determined the winners of the FIGAN 2025 Technological Improvements and Innovations Competition, which aims to recognise products or services developed by companies that invest in R&D&I.
Although the 2025 edition awards barely reflect the poultry or avian nutrition solutions on display (the majority are for swine and cattle), we list below the four that have been recognised by FIGAN for their application in poultry:
1- BIOPLAGEN (Seville) for “Sanivir Blue Fumigator“, a disinfectant in fumigant smoke form, bactericidal and fungicidal, which spreads rapidly to disinfect facilities, using raw materials of low toxicity and high biodegradability.

2- FOSS (Barcelona) for “MycoFoss“, an automatic mycotoxin analysis system that delivers fast and accurate results in just eight minutes. It allows quantification of mycotoxins such as DON, FUM, AFLA, ZEA, OTA and T-2 in wheat and maize, and detection of DON and ZEA in barley.

3- OSMOEUROPA (Zaragoza) for “Automated CO2 monitoring, recording and control system for livestock farms”. This automated CO2 monitoring system for farms controls ventilation in real time, improving animal welfare, optimising production and reducing energy consumption, in compliance with Royal Decree 159/2023.

4- VENCOMATIC IBERICA (Tarragona) for “Meggsius Select“. VENCOMATIC, a company highly specialised in all aspects of laying poultry, is well aware of the significant labour requirements involved in egg collection and, concerned with highlighting all the data that can be gathered, has developed the Meggsius range (My EGGS GenIUS) to improve the poultryman’s working conditions. He no longer needs to handle egg grading (Meggsius Select) thanks to the automatic advancement of egg belts and conveyors (Meggsius Count&Control). This reduces labour requirements in the collection room by 25%. All the data gathered assists the poultryman in the management of his flocks.
The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 at the Mobility City – Puente Zaha Hadid venue in Zaragoza, during the 17th edition of the fair. Award winners will receive, in addition to their recognition, various promotional and visibility actions from FIGAN 2025.
